Launch weather forecast
Posted: August 15, 2003

 Forecast for Wednesday, August 20

Issued: Friday, August 15
Launch Weather Officer: 45th Weather Squadron

Synoptic Discussion: "Tropical wave passing across South Florida today, producing widespread rain and occasionally strong wind, will continue to move westward with the threat of rain ending by this evening.

"A strong upper level high pressure system will replace the persistent trough over the Eastern US through Saturday producing low and mid level onshore flow with a minimal chance of afternoon/evening storms in the local area through Saturday. A more typical summer pattern with gradually return Sunday and become well established early next week. Isolated afternoon storms on Sunday could impact early countdown activities but should dissipate through the evening.

"The most probable impact to activities during the window would be residual cloudiness or thunderstorm anvils. Thunderstorm activity will become more likely early next week with a greater chance of impact to launch countdown activities."

Clouds: Scattered at 3,000 feet with 2-3/8ths sky coverage and tops at 5,000 feet; Scattered-to-Broken at 14,000 feet with 2-3/8ths sky coverage and tops at 18,000 feet; Broken at 26,000 feet with 3-4/8ths sky coverage and tops at 29,000 feet
