Hydraulic lines frozen

SPACEFLIGHT NOW DIGITAL VIDEO
Posted: April 12, 2000

Shuttle technicians oversee the freezing of hydraulic lines leading to and from Atlantis' broken Power Drive Unit. The PDU, located inside the shuttle's tail, controls Atlantis' rudder/speed brake during landing. The hydraulic fluid within the lines was frozen to prevent air from entering the hydraulic systems.
