Space shuttle Columbia lifts off from Kennedy Space Center's launch pad 39A on November 11, 1982. STS-5 was the first operational shuttle mission after Columbia successfully completed four earlier test flights. Columbia's four astronauts deployed two commercial communications satellites on STS-5.
