Launch weather forecast
Posted: October 15, 2007

 Forecast for Wednesday, October 17

Issued: Monday, October 15
Launch Weather Officer: 45th Weather Squadron

Synoptic Discussion: "The high pressure that has been dominating the weather over Florida the last several days is beginning to weaken and move east. This will allow a surface boundary to migrate northward from the Florida Keys. As the boundary moves northward, expect an increase in clouds and rain shower activity across southern Florida. This boundary will push just north of the Cape by late Wednesday, keeping the low level moisture confined to the southern half of Florida. Widely scattered thunderstorms will be in place Wednesday afternoon tapering off by late evening.

"Primary concerns throughout the launch window are thick cumulus clouds, as well as rain showers at the launch pad."

Clouds: Cumulus scattered at 3,000 feet and tops at 12,000 feet; Cirrus broken at 25,000 feet and tops at 28,000 feet

Visibility: 7 miles

Launch Pad Winds: Southeasterly from 150 degrees at 5 gusting to 10 knots

Temperature: 74 to 76 degrees F

Relative Humidity: 80 percent

Weather: Showers in the vicinity

Probability of Violating Weather Constraints: 60 percent

Concerns: Cumulus Cloud Rule, Thick Cloud Rule, Precipitation

 24-hour Delay Forecast

Thursday's Probability of Violating Constraints: 40 percent
Concerns: Cumulus Cloud Rule, Thick Cloud Rule, Precipitation
