Launch weather forecast
Posted: September 24, 2006

 Forecast for Monday, September 25

Issued: Sunday, September 24
Launch Weather Officer: Joel Tumbiolo, 45th Weather Squadron

Synoptic Discussion: "Only change of note is to wind direction to account for afternoon sea breeze formation and decrease of overall probability of violation. Weak frontal boundary to slowly drift southward over the Florida Peninsula early next week and will be located over northern Florida on Monday, and central Florida on Tuesday. Isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms are possible as result of the frontal boundary, afternoon sea breeze, and surface diurnal heating.

"Main concerns during the launch window will be clouds within 10 nautical miles that are associated with any isolated showers or thunderstorms that may develop."

Clouds: Cumulus scattered at 3,000 feet and tops at 15,000 feet; Cirrus scattered at 25,000 feet and tops at 26,000 feet

Visibility: 10 miles

Launch Pad Winds: Southeasterly from 120 degrees at 8 gusting to 12 knots

Temperature: 84 to 86 degrees F

Relative Humidity: 70 percent

Weather: Isolated shower or thunderstorm in the vicinity

Probability of Violating Weather Constraints: 20 percent

Concerns: Anvil Cloud Rule, Cumulus Cloud Rule
