Launch weather forecast
Posted: June 26, 2006

 Forecast for Tuesday, June 27

Issued: Monday, June 26
Launch Weather Officer: 30th Weather Squadron

Synoptic Discussion: "A weak low pressure center over San Francisco remains stationary with a surface trough stretched across the California coast. Broad areas of moisture move up from the South enhancing broken layers of mid and upper cloud. A dominant Southwesterly flow in the lower levels persists over the Eastern Pacific, and a surface trough along the coast keep winds Westerly at 12 - 18 knots while thick marine layer stratus dominates. Upper level winds are Southerly at 35 - 40 knots."

24 Hour Scrub Forecast: "The low weakens overnight and broad high pressure aloft shifts Easward. This keeps the bulk of mid level moisture East of Vandenberg. Marine layer stratus will continue to dominate with very low ceilings and visibility during the evening and overnight hours, while surface winds stay Southwesterly at 12 - 18 knots. Upper level winds stay Southerly 30 - 35 knots."

Clouds: Stratus at 200 feet and tops at 1,700 feet with 8/8ths sky coverage; Altocumulus at 16,000 feet and tops at 23,000 feet with 6/8ths sky coverage; Cirrus at 25,000 feet and tops at 33,000 feet with 5/8ths sky coverage

Visibility: One-half mile

Launch Pad Winds: Westerly from 260-290 degrees at 12 to 18 knots

Temperature: 55 to 60 degrees F
