Launch weather forecast
Posted: June 21, 2006

 Forecast for Wednesday, June 21

Issued: Wednesday, June 21
Launch Weather Officer: Joel Tumbiolo, 45th Weather Squadron

Synoptic Discussion: "Continued no changes to forecast reasoning with overall favorable conditions expected. Surface high pressure ridge axis will be positioned north of the region, resulting in a continuation of low level layer easterly flow. Westward moving late morning, early afternoon thundershowers along the coast and afternoon inland thunderstorms accompany this pattern. Easterly wave over the Bahamas will slowly move westward but is not expected to affect FL until the weekend. At the beginning of the launch window any thunderstorms that do develop will generally drift southward and be concentrated over the central interior and western sections of the FL Peninsula.

"Main concerns are offshore Cumulus Clouds and showers moving westward, and Anvil Clouds from thunderstorms over interior FL."

Clouds: Cumulus Scattered at 3,000 feet and tops at 10,000 feet; Altocumulus Scattered at 12,000 feet and tops at 15,000 feet; Cirrus Scattered at 25,000 feet and tops at 26,000 feet

Visibility: 10 miles

Launch Pad Winds: Easterly from 080 degrees at 10 gusting to 15 knots

Temperature: 82 to 84 degrees F

Relative Humidity: 70 percent

Weather: Showers in the vicinity offshore; Isolated thunderstorm west

Concerns: Anvil Cloud Rule, Cumulus Cloud Rule

 Forecast for 24-hour delay
