Launch weather forecast
Posted: June 16, 2006

 Forecast for Tuesday, June 20

Issued: Friday, June 16
Launch Weather Officer: Joel Tumbiolo, 45th Weather Squadron

Synoptic Discussion: "Surface and upper level high pressure will build over the SE U.S. over the next few days. Deep layer easterly flow will dominate the region as a result. This pattern typically indicates early sea breeze development which moves quickly inland during the afternoon. Westward moving late morning, early afternoon thundershowers along the coast and afternoon inland thunderstorms accompany this pattern. Only low confidence issue will be for weak easterly waves embedded in the deep easterly flow that may enhance thundershower activity over near the coastal waters and along the coast.

"Main concern will for Anvil and cumulus clouds over the flight path and near coastal waters."

Clouds: Scattered at 3,000 feet and tops at 10,000 feet; Scattered at 12,000 feet and tops at 15,000 feet; Scattered at 25,000 feet and tops at 26,000 feet

Visibility: 10 miles

Launch Pad Winds: Easterly from 090 degrees at 10 gusting to 15 knots

Temperature: 82 to 84 degrees F

Relative Humidity: 60 percent

Weather: Showers in the vicinity offshore; Isolated thunderstorm west

Probability of Violating Weather Constraints: 20 percent

Concerns: Anvil Cloud Rule, Cumulus Cloud Rule
