Launch weather forecast
Posted: April 18, 2006

 Forecast for Thursday, April 20

Issued: Tuesday, April 18
Launch Weather Officer: 45th Weather Squadron

Synoptic Discussion: "Gusty westerly winds to 25 knots will continue through early afternoon associated with a frontal boundary approaching Central Florida this afternoon. The weak boundary will stall in South Central Florida Tuesday evening and remain over the peninsula through launch day. There is a small chance of an isolated thunderstorm throughout the MLP roll and launch opportunities associated with the quasi-stationary boundary.

"For the MLP roll on Wednesday expect East winds gusting to 15 knots.

"For launch day, a broad area of lower pressure persists over Central and North Florida. Expect West winds through mid-afternoon becoming Easterly gusting to 18 knots during the window. There is a chance of isolated showers and a small chance of an isolated thunderstorm associated with the boundary located over the peninsula.

"The primary concerns for launch day are thick clouds and disturbed weather associated with the boundary. Proton flux for 10 MeV energetic particles is forecast at normal background levels.

"Conditions remain similar in the event of a 24 hour delay with thick clouds and disturbed weather the principle concerns."

Clouds: Strato-Cumulus Scattered at 2,500 feet with tops at 4,500 feet; and Cirrus Broken at 25,000 feet with tops at 28,000 feet

Temperature: 78-82 degrees F

Relative Humidity: 70 percent
