An Ariane 5 rocket launched with a European-built cargo freighter Friday, hauling fresh food, spare parts, propellant, water and breathing air for the six-person crew on the International Space Station.

Liftoff was at 0434 GMT (12:34 a.m. EDT).

These photos were taken at the Toucan viewing site about 3 miles south of the launch pad at the Guiana Space Center, the European-run spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana.
